man_aboutMr. Melin is a technologist, innovator, and entrepreneur in Cambridge. He started a Search Engine Marketing firm based in downtown Boston which provides SEO & PPC (lead generation) services related to Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. Founded in 1997, he bootstrapped the business into a successful consultancy & marketing services firm. He previously was the founder of The Corporate Awareness Group, Inc. a software startup which developed wireless and technology tools for Socially Responsible Investors to screen investment portfolios. As President of SpiderSplat Consulting, Inc. (now owned by Optey, Inc.) Eric was responsible for evangelizing the value proposition of a Search Engine Marketing investment to a marketplace first unfamiliar with the concept. “Search” has since matured to a $6 Billion dollar industry. Eric now sets the technical direction of the company as CTO.

As CEO he established multi-year relationships with small/medium business owners and Fortune 500 brands such as Marriott International (NYSE:MAR), Theatre.com, Liberty Medical (NASDAQ:PLMD), batteries.com, TaylorGifts, Starwood Hotels (NYSE:HOT), Broadway.com, Intelli-check (NASDAQ:IDN), Coinland.com, Victoria Secret, United Site Services, Inc., Ace Tickets, Etronics.com, binoculars.com, Baby Toytown, Inc., 1800PetMeds (NASDAQ: PETS), etc. Eric sets all SEO/SEM strategies for clients and has generated millions of dollars in revenue and achieved results ranging from tripling of “organic” search engine traffic to a 14x campaign ROI.


Eric enjoys developing models which solve social problems with business plans pitched in a variety of settings including E-Idol Battle of the Business Plans at Harvard Business School, the MIT $100K Entrepreneurship competition (’06 Finalist), IDEAS Competition at MIT, and the MIT Enterprise Forum. He is an aspiring “Social Entrepreneur” and serves on the TiE Social Entrepreneurs Steering Committee and helped organize the ForSE 2008: Forum for Social Entrepreneurs. At HULT International School of Business, he was Panelist at “Entrepreneurship: A State of Mind” – he worked with Harvard Business School students in the Entrepreneurial Marketing Course and was a Judge at The Social Equity Venture Fund a Student Essay Competition: Entrepreneurship as a solution to eradicate poverty.


As Webmaster and MIS/IT Consultant Eric has maintained complex data, ecommerce & web systems; he is skilled in over 500 software titles, as well as web-based, desktop, and enterprise scale systems. He has built, managed and implemented 5 CRM database systems (SugarCRM, Salesforce.com, and others). He is a member and contributor to dozens of industry associations and is most active with MIT $100K, SEMPO, MITX, AMA, CEO Club, TiE-Boston, MIT e-club, and other groups devoted to fostering entrepreneurship. He also serves as an Advisor to several internet startups and enjoys typing in the third person.

Melin has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, Mass High Tech, Boston Business Journal, and other trade journals. Eric was also awarded Cato University’s Bastiat Scholarship (Summer Seminar). Eric began his career in Management Consulting and has over 10 years of online marketing experience. He attained his degree from Boston College and the Boston University School of Management and enjoys just about any outdoor activity that does not require a computer screen.
